Food photography is one of my favorite aspects of my job. To me, capturing food on camera is fun and satisfying. Food imagery should be sensual and inviting to the viewer. Texture, color and composition are critical to the final image. Most importantly, the picture should look good enough to eat. It should even make you hungry!

The Santa Clarita Valley is home to many national and local industrial companies—everything from aerospace engineering to water purification. Their services and products are often best shown in “facilities and capabilities” brochures, which are similar to annual reports. Lighting and composition are critical in these locations.

Over the years, I’ve been challenged by some interesting product shoots. My studio in the Valencia Industrial Park is surrounded by manufacturers of aerospace materials, electronics, computer components and more. Every client proudly regards their product as their “baby”, and they want it portrayed in the best possible way. Quality product images should cause viewers to pause, study, and want to know more about the product.

To me, anyone with a smile is a personality. A few celebrities in this gallery are accustomed to being photographed, but everyone—even a celebrity--needs a little coaxing at times. I draw out genuine expressions from my subjects by making them feel at home. A comfortable atmosphere off camera lets me capture the personality on film.

Photographing helmets is a great product shoot challenge. Motorcycle, mountain bike, skate and road bike helmets are pieces of art.Whether the helmet has solid glossy colors or complicated Graffiti graphics, it must be shown with saturation and without unwanted reflections. I do my best to minimize the need for Photoshop cleanup, and deliver an image ready for print or web.

From coffee to cocktails, drinks can stand alone or accompany meals. Drinks also open up conversations at business meetings or social gatherings. Shooting drinks requires a team effort, where food stylists and photographers work together to capture the perfect pour with bubbles, melting ice or rising steam.
